For the last couple of months, I’ve been working on a game in my free time: a solo-rpg/boardgame/card game called “The Number Crunch: A Game of Death and Taxes.”

It’s a game in which you–the player–take on the role of an Auditor in the Ministry of the Exchequer. Your job is to venture out into the wild and collect information through stealth, diplomacy and combat.

And, I’m kinda/almost/sorta ready to release it out into the wild.

It’s in an alpha state: meaning there are bugs and various little problems that I’m trying to iron out, but the systems that make up play are mostly in place.

If you’d like to download it to check it out, feel free to do so! If you’d like to play it (and even playtest it!), you’re more than welcome to! I’d be glad to hear from you/answer any questions you might have! And if you help me with playtesting, I’ll see that your name ends up in the credits, in whatever state it ends up in!

More monsters from my forthcoming game “The Number Crunch.”

Click on the images for a larger view. It probably isn’t necessary, they don’t get any better!

In addition to narrative-corpse monsters, there are also series of Antagonists and minions found in narrative play. The first one is some sort of pirate octopus with a harpoon. And the second is a bug. With a badge. (The worst kind–the power just seems to go to their head.)

And next are Sharon: Director of Public Relations for the Ministry of the Exchequer and a goblin riding a bear. Clearly this is a very scientific game.

I’ve been working on a game for a while now. It’s narrative corpse game called The Number Crunch: A Game of Death and Taxes. Recently I switched from a base-8 mechanic to a base-6 mechanic. (There was no real reason for using a base-8 mechanic in the first place–I just happened to have drawn 8 monsters!) In switching mechanics, I had to cut two monsters… these are their stories. <lawandordersoundeffect>Duhn, duhn! </lawandordersoundeffect>

Over the past few weeks, as time has allowed, I’ve been working on a solo, mix-and-match dungeon crawl game. (Inspired by this, but not completed in time!) In the game, the player draws tiles that designate a creature made up of different parts. They’re assembled into some sort of post-modern hodgepodge of terror. (And by terror, I mean awesomeness.)

While not yet complete, here are a couple of samples: a gorgon and a vampire. (It wasn’t originally intended to be jokey, but honestly, drawing the vampire as such was too much fun…)
